Wow. This book THIS BOOK! I've been a huge fan of Wow. This book THIS BOOK! I've been a huge fan of @the.holistic.psychologist for a while now, and was lucky to get a review copy of her much-anticipated book. I must say, in all earnestness, I believe this book could change lives, if not the world, if enough people read it. 'How To Do The Work' is an incredible introduction to the most exciting developments in mental health, including: trauma informed understandings of treating mental illness, polyvagal theory, inner child work, neuroplasticity, links between gut/brain health, the list goes on...! She explains everything with her trademark warmth and authenticity, and the book gives you practical rituals to start waking up to yourself, understanding yourself, forgiving yourself, and healing yourself. This book is for anyone who doesn't understand why they struggle so much with their thoughts, or why they're so stuck in their patterns, because they feel like 'nothing that bad' happened to them. It will transform how you see yourself and your ability to change. I'm going to buy about a million copies for people! I will say additionally, that I believe greatly in the power of the therapeutic relationship, and believe this book to be something that can benefit this journey, especially if you're on a waiting list for support right now. And, if you have suffered from abuse and severe trauma, I'd advise also seeing a specialist therapist. It's so exciting to see these changing conversations around mental health, and have books like this being published. To me, tackling the mental 'illness' epidemic in this country is about two things - fighting for a fairer and healthier society to reduce the mental health fall-outs, alongside empowering people to understand themselves better, and giving them access to the tools that can heal their wounds. This book is certainly an amazing tool, and as Nicole points out, caring for ourselves better equips us to fight for a healthier society. It's published March. Do pre-order it from your local bookshop. And thank-you @the.holistic.psychologist for your amazing work xxx

A very strange #Top9 to round off a very strange y A very strange #Top9 to round off a very strange year. I certainly was not a lockdown-productive person, unless you count growing a giant endo cyst as an achievement? But I managed to release Pretending into a pandemic, and April's story managed to find its readers despite all the bookshops being shut (Thank you, wonderful readers). I managed to finish The Yearbook, ready for it to be released next May for my tenth YA book celebrations. And I managed to get said cyst removed THANKFULLY before the second wave hit. And I just about managed to stay sane and find pockets of joy thanks to Folklore, Whatsapp group chats, cherishing loved people in my life, getting the cutest cat known to man, Love Is Blind, Selling Sunset, and mainlining Princess Diana content. I think 2020 was the year of 'managing despite' for lots of us, rather than writing the next King Lear through lockdown, while also getting super ripped, and becoming fluent in Latin. Hopefully next year, with this glorious vaccine on the horizon, we can thrive rather than manage. Let's stay safe in the meantime, and keep just-about managing a little while longer xxx

I hope wherever you are tomorrow, whatever you're doing, you manage to find some peace and joy. Love, Holly xxx

TW: Domestic Violence. It was my absolute honour t TW: Domestic Violence. It was my absolute honour to co-host this episode of the @britishlibrary's Unfinished Business series, entitled 'A Scar In Our Society'. We explored the prevalence of domestic abuse in this country, the Domestic Abuse bill, and how our understanding of coercive control is changing. It was a career highlight for me getting to interview Pragna Patel, director of @southallblacksisters, about her incredible work supporting BAME victims of violence. Please do take the time to listen to it, and learn about this issue, and learn about how much more work needs to be done. Also, the Unfinished Business podcast is part of an amazing exhibition at the British Library, exploring the fight for women's rights. Do check out the exhibition if it's safe for you to do so. #unfinishedbusiness #domesticviolence #coersivecontrol #womensaid @womens_aid

This is uncomfortable, but we need to look at the This is uncomfortable, but we need to look at the faces of these women today. Because these women all died in the last year at the hands of men. And this is only some of them. Since 2020, 95 women have been killed, and rates of domestic homicide doubled in the first two weeks of lockdown. I hate confronting this. You likely hate confronting this. We must confront this. On average, a woman in England and Wales is killed every four days by a current or former partner. The pandemic has only made things worse. This #internationaldayagainstviolenceonwomen please head over to @countingdeadwomen and spend some time with these women, and vow to do whatever you can to make this number lower next year. And please donate to @womens_aid ns_aid if you can, to help keep more women safe.
